The "sent-ness" of Jesus captures the very essence of who God is. Jesus was "sent" because God is a sending God. Jesus sent His disciples because Jesus too is a sending Savior. Sending has been His heart and nature from the very beginning. We too have been called to be "sent" into the world, to practice our faith, proclaiming the Kingdom of God.
